Why do people create businesses? It is to build something, to contribute more to the ecosystem, for freedom.
In 1992 Mr. A. K DAS had job that would have led him to head the pioneering behemoth of Indian material handling and warehousing industry. In spite of that he gave up his job;spent several sleepless nights deliberating the justification of this decision. AND he started Prime Mover India as a proprietorship. He had to give up on a lot of habits, luxuries which he had become accustomed to while working at a behemoth. The journey of PMECPL is not without its share of sweat, guts and glory. He toiled hard using all his learning, experience to manufacture the brushed DC motor for a lift application for a battery operated forklift truck. This was the make-break point of our company’s history. Over the next few years he went on to design, develop and manufacture a lot of brushed DC motors for strictly battery operated applications.
….as people we love electric motors, they intrigue us, bring us joy, fill us with pride, define us and help us take care of an ecosystem of our surroundings both people and nature.
Mr. A K Das loves electric motors. This has been the defining point of Prime Mover. We love to make electric motors; we love to “break” electric motors; push them; take them to the point where it is risky, just for the thrill of it; just for fun; for the edge; for pride. Yes our products may fail in the process, but over the years we have learnt that failures give successes the sweet taste; success does not give memories, nightmares; failures do. In the end we always look back at years bygone to learn, to feel, to enjoy and above all to live.
"Our vulnerabilities are our strength…"
In 2003 while travelling by train across India, Mr. A K Das came across a journal which said 3ϕ AC Induction Motors are being run on batteries by scientists and will be offered for e-mobility. He foresaw that in another 5-7 years India would become the battleground for her market for this particular product. He did not understand how can an AC motor run from a DC power source. He dug deep; went back to school and university books; approached professors of elite universities of India, clients, SMEs; with little to moderate success in understanding how that can happen. He was despondent, vulnerable but determined to succeed.
And ride he did….
In 2004, after reading and learning a lot, he understood that a 3 phase inverter is required to convert DC power to AC power for driving a 3ϕ AC Induction Motor and its behavior. In 2005, he along with another expert designed, developed and manufactured 3ϕ AC Induction Motor for a 3 ton capacity forklift truck. Starting 2006, 3ϕ AC Induction Motors were offered from serial production from our company for battery operated applications.
In 2008 April, Prime Mover changed constitution and became a registered private limited company rechristened as M/s PRIME MOVER ENGINEERING COMPANY PRIVATE LIMITED.
Arrival of the heirs…
In 2010 & 2011, Ms. C Das and Mr. S K Das joined the company in capacity of Directors. Since then R & D was prioritized on value basis looking at the future of motors. Since 2013 5% of our annual turnover has been earmarked for R&D activities; something we pride ourselves in and most significantly these are not benchmarking efforts, these are electric motors borne out of research and knowledge seeking.
Prime Mover has always been associated with battery operated applications. The focus has been electric motors. It may be material handling, warehousing, electric vehicles, solar applications etc. we are committed to provide our customers full value for money. We think all of us demand that as buyers in all aspects.
In 2017, Prime Mover crossed two million USD (2M USD) in net sales, something we will cherish for a long time.
